Week 10 Research

For Week 10 Research, I chose Gilles Tran's A Few Things Left Behind. Accrding to MOCA, Gilles Tran works as a agricultural engineer, and 3D art has been his hobby since 1993. He is very detailed with his artwork, and has some of the best works in the website. This artwork was modeled in Cinema 4D and Rendered in FinalRender. I chose this art in specific because it looks just like the video game Fallout 4, a game that show the future with a 50's aesthetics, and the machines in the game looks just like the one in the picture. 50's aethetics is a type of art that I like a lot, and I personally find this outstanding.

Week 10 Research Post- Kayla Clark

Tanya Shyika: Notes from NYC: Big City Life, children's illustration. This artist is a big printmaker, she does book covers, maps, apps, and comics, this is very interesting to me because these pieces are all very colorful and vibrant. This artist struck my attention and I really took a deep dive into her work to see what other pieces she makes I thought it was really amazing.

Week Ten Research Assignment

I found this piece in the World Cities gallery- Buenas Aires- by Denny Copperman. It's a dreary, monochrome image. I adore neutral colors in art, as it's much easier on my ethanthen-generated pieces. This is the same, and while it's incredibly vague, the title gives me only a little to run with.

This piece reminds me of air pollution in the world and how it affects our cities. Many cities are filled with smog, and this piece shows a town covered by a thick fog.

When researching Denny Copperman, I found nothing regarding other pieces or portfolios; not even an online presence could be found. He's in the wind.

Week 10 research assignment - Hayden Grigas

This piece was posted by an artist by the name of Don Archer. Archer used AI to create this piece. The reason that I picked this piece was because that it looked similar to a snow globe. I think that these AI pieces are so interesting to me because it doesn't really make sense that a robot essentially can make something like this without being programmed to do so.

Week 10 Research

For week 10 I chose the artist Luca Cervini. Luca was born in 1983 in Merate, Italy! He studied graphics at university to receive his diploma in 2003 with a specialty in advertising design. His interests are centered around photography, comics, illustrations, poetry, and cinema. His digital art is symbolist-surreal,painted, collated, and drawn all done on a computer! He has a very unique art style which is why I was drawn to his work, as it’s something that I feel brings out a lot of emotion. His work is said to express change and a deep sense of emotion. Luca says his work is “sometimes ominous, sometimes sad” which I feel this image definitely conveys. When I saw this image, I felt that I could feel more than just the ominous or sad tones he was trying to make known in the imagery. The Image I picked titled “Love” conveys more than that ominous or sad feeling that he says comes through in his work. I felt as though it gave a mysterious feeling, as well as hurt or pain being symbolized by the fire. I feel like the symbolism in his work is purposeful and it really speaks volumes. I found the layering and different textures to be really beautiful throughout this piece as well. There is a link below to his work that I found, but the text has to be  translated! His work is worth the look, I definitely enjoyed his art style and what it shows.

Paul Piorkowski - Week 10 Research Assignment

The artist I chose to share this week is Maisie Kane. She began making art as a hobby in 2019, but that hobby became a full-time career. Growing up in Vermont and Costa Rica, nature played an important role in her life, and that reflects in her artwork. Her primary software is Photoshop.

The piece I decided to share this week is untitled, but depicts the artist (right) and her friend (left) standing next to a small cascade or waterfall, while large mushrooms grow from the hillside behind them. The piece evokes the feeling of being out in nature, but the oversized mushrooms exaggerate that feeling, especially since, personally, I find mushrooms to be some of the most interesting things to find in nature.

Her website is www.maisiekane.com

An additional fun fact, Maisie is actually a friend of my partner's aunt

intro to computer arts

Mamata Baruah Herland, originally from Assam, India, settled in Norway in the mid-1980s, currently living in Bærum, on the outsides of Oslo. After chasing studies in natural sciences and working part-time, she changed her focus to art and design. Her educational journey included visual art studies in Australia and a Master’s degree in Fine Art from England.

She gained experience as a graphic designer at an art magazine company in Oslo before founding Mamta Gallery in Sandvika, opened by notable figures in the community. Her artistic expression primarily involves digital mediums alongside various other forms like painting, photography, digital print, and video art. Her works have gained international exposure and found places in diverse collections worldwide.

Mamata's art represents a fusion of digital creativity with spirituality and emotional depth. Her pieces transcend typical boundaries, blending the digital world with an imaginative nature, creating a realm between rationality and magic, reality and dream. She aims to inspire captivation and mysticism through her digitally-driven creations, ultimately exploring a transition from traditional rationality to a utopian dream society.

the reason why i chose to do mamata as my artist is because her art work caught my attention on the fact as i was left wondering how she created it. it also madre me wonder what exactly was i looking at in this like the mirror how its in the back round of the clouds and how there is like a person in the corner of the wall staring at the mirror it just made me very interested in this piece of work.

Week 10 Research Assignment

I chose to research Janet Parke this week. She was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana. She trained and danced at the Fort Wayne Ballet Academy, where she performed as a soloist and later taught. In 1996, Janet Parke developed an early interest in fractals. Although restricted by a very slow computer, she was initially fascinated by their colors and shapes and spent most of her time examining other individual's online fractal galleries. Janet was among the first to use and master the complex fractal program Ultra Fractal. On top of that, she provided the online community with a series of tutorials on the use of the program. Her skillfully crafted fractals are built of dramatic forms accentuated by a powerful, subtle color palette of warm, rich colors, all while maintaining artistic integrity. All of the fractals on display were created using Ultra Fractal. She first produced art only for her enjoyment. Her perspective turned from an enthusiastic dabbler to a serious artist when she received invitations to exhibit and sell her work in galleries and art festivals. I chose this art of her, and it is called Sudionis. This piece of art is dark, and you can see many spirals. This piece brought out a sense of confusion in me.

Here are a couple of website when her art is exposed.

The artist I picked this week is Giuseppe Mariotti. He is from Italy and studied architecture at university. Mariotti never attended art school and is completely self taught. He is extremely interested in digital art and graphic art. He has made comic books before and is always looking for new ways to create art.
I find his work very unique and you can tell that it has influence from digital and graphic art but also a little bit of influence from architecture. Mariotti has received many awards for his artwork. A link to his website can be found here.

Week 10 Research Assignment (Toby M)

For this week, I decided to choose artist Jerry Downs. Downs was born in Mount Olive, Alabame and was the last of six children. He didn't start his artistic journey until he had left the Navy in the Pacific in which he had served. To start, Downs had joined the animation department of Walt Disney Studios, working under two of the famed "Five Old Men" who founded Disney Animation. Downs had worked as an animator at Disney Animation for 10 years, working for many productions. Downs had then left Disney Animation to pursue a career in fine art in 1967. He also served as the artist in residence for "Far West" magazine until 1972.

Authors Quote:

"The fact that the sun travels 93 million miles so I can take a picture inspires me and also, pretty much everything else around this world."

Jerry Downs (About the Artist)

I chose this picture by him because it reminded me of a horror movie "The Eye". And there was a scene where this woman had just gotted surgery on her eye and it was all foggy, like her vision was unclear. But, the eye she had allowed her to see many paranormal activity that normal people couldn't see. This is why I chose this picture because it reminded me of that. It also looks like a bunch of people talking to each other in a house.

Week 10 Research

The work that I decided to look at works by Werner Hournug. The works by them are made with digital art software. I want to focus on the piece titled Do as I Say and Nobody Will Get Hurt. This piece draws my eyes in because the focal point is a knight in the middle of the work. A fun thing is that the work has a female knight's armor, as you can tell by the design of the armor. Another cool thing that can catch attention is the scepter in the knight's hand. The colors in this work allow for the picture of the knight to shine as they are not as bright and not too saturated, drawing my eyes away from it.

Week 10 Research Assignment Kyle Dann

Eric Kuns went to school at UC Irvine where he was able to receive a Masters in Fine Arts and a Bachelors in Studio Art from UCLA. Eric says that his current work is created from PhotoShop, a drawing tablet, and his own drawings, scans, and photos. He is able to use his computer to achieve more traditional methods such as drawing, painting, sculpture, and photography. He is able to explore more opportunities by using the technology through his computer. For him, his goal is to create beautiful and engaging imagery that tells a story. Eric wants his audience to be able to relate and connect to his work. His intentions are for people to be able to look at his art rather than just read about it. He wants people to come up with stories when they see his work. Out of the several images that he has, the image above stood out to me. At first glance, I can see a hand that is wrapped around a gecko or some sort of lizard. The entire image looks like waves and from looking at the colors, it looks like there is a fire in the water. Below the gecko, I can see a head that almost looks dead. I believe that this was Eric's goal when he started creating art. He wanted people to find their own ideas in his work and come up with ideas that may be different than others. There is a lot going on in his work but there is always something that will pop into your head when you take a look.

Week 10 Research

This week I stumbled upon Bogdan Pystrom's work. He is a Polish artist who specializes in photograph-based digital art. He is a part of the Union of Polish Art Photographers. He uses his photographs and edits them with his style. The work below is named No. 007. In my opinion, this picture is really creepy. Which is perfect, since Halloween was just yesterday. Most of his work involves two subjects, with this one being two twins. I like how each sister is in a different texture. The one on the left is more life-like and realistic art, while the one on the right is more similar to a drawing, maybe one made by a child. Either way, I hope I don't see their eyes any time soon.

Week 10 Reserach Assignment

Karin Kuhlmann's abstract art, known as AbstraXness, shines as a prominent example of algorithmic art. With wide acclaim and several prestigious awards to her name, her work showcases the convergence of art and technology. The twelve pieces featured in this exhibit were skillfully crafted and colored in Photoshop using the FraxFrame filter from KPT5, bearing a distinct characteristic of fractals. https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1O6yS2OIGh_D_IgPZ5vyqjl1NL_6NYgo8

The artist, born in 1948, currently resides and creates in Verl, Germany. Kuhlmann's background in photography and graphic design, coupled with years of experience as a commercial artist for renowned companies like Bertelsmann and Nobilia, as well as her work as a publicist, has contributed to her remarkable artistic journey. I have chosen this picture because we were doing fractals and i just feel like this is an eye-catching picture.

Week 10: Research Assignment

For this week I chose the artist North Zhang who created this piece with Photoshop and Blender. They used Photoshop to sketch out and colorize the piece. They also used Photoshop to add lighting in the form of sun rays and reflections on the water. Then they used Blender to put in some of the windmills and the walls of the town. The piece that Zhang made was to examine the nature of a small town between some mountains and the beauty of sunlight on the various parts of the area in nature. I also believe that they are trying to convey to the viewer that the wind is an integral part in this society. I believe this because you can see this through the many windmills that are used to keep the town sustained. However I believe that Zhang is trying to convey the intricate balance of nature and how it impacts towns relying on certain aspects of nature. This can be shown through the fact that wind for this town can stop at any moment and the city can very well be in trouble as there is no new energy coming in due to the fact that there is no wind.

Week 10 Research Assignment - Ian Garcia

For this week, I decided to research Renata Spiazzi for this assignment. Renata was born in Trieste, Italy, on January 10, 1926. From a very young age, Renata has had a burning passion for art, and she has stayed involved with the arts all of her life. During WWII, she supported her family by working in the advertising scene, specifically at the Unione Pubblicita' Italiana in Trieste. She then moved to the United States in 1952, where she taught arts and crafts at the San Diego Community College. Renata was also the owner of Renée's Children Manufacturing and Designing Clothes in La Jolla from 1953 through 1980. Renata finally bought her very own computer when she retired. That's when she discovered the potential of digital art and its capabilities; she then decided not to do oil paintings, watercolors, or even woodcuts. She was purely focused on the computer and its possibilities and could create compositions using the non-objective images given to her by fractal fragments; she says that it has opened up a whole new world of possibilities for her. She is completely taken aback by fractals now; she also compares her compositions to music. Renata states that her art is not what it looks like, but it is what it makes you feel when you look at it.

WEEK 10 Research - Reagan Franzoni

The artist I chose for week 10 from the Museum of Computer Art is Karen Kuhlmann. She is an abstract digital artist from Verl, Germany. Her art is mostly categorized as Fractals because of its unique and abstract look that she creates using algorithmic techniques. The name of her art is called AbstraXness and is designed and colored in Adobe Photoshop using a filter downloaded called FraxFrame filter from KPT5. Kuhlmann studied graphic design and photography in school and worked as a publicist for many years, and when she started using the computer to create her art she started to focus more on surreal and abstract techniques. She prefers to use automatism or conscious thoughts to influence her designs. She started with a series of shapes relating to an idea she has and combines them to form arrangements of colors with areas of glowing colors and lights within. All her designs are simply coincidences because algorithms depend on designs that come from experiments with different tools and techniques and the colors are subjective because they pertain to the idea you had in mind when picking out shapes to use in your image.

The image that I chose from Karen Kuhlmann’s collection of fractal art is called “Sunny Day” and it is an abstract fractal of purple, blue, pink, orange, and green lines crossing over one another with what looks like abstract butterflies surrounding the lines. I chose this piece because I like the distinctive shapes of the butterflies within the image because a lot of her other work is a formation of unidentifiable shapes and the butterflies are very clear, but also very unique because of the brushstroke look they have. I like the use of multicolored lines to create a glowing effect. I think this image portrays an idea of a beautiful sunny day with bright colors and rainbows and butterflies  portraying happiness and calming environments. Kuhlmann uses a FraxFrame filter in Photoshop to combine her shapes and in this case she used sharp intersecting lines and brush stroke butterfly shapes to create her conscious and algorithmic design.

Week 10 MOCA-Andre Marcano

This piece is called "Clockeyed" by Alan King. King's main focus is creating surreal pieces of art. This caught my eye because I thought of it as watching time fly by with your own eyes.

Drawing and computer talents are deftly combined in Alan King's style. While the computer component enables the artist to create some peculiar but fascinating images with far more clarity than traditional drawing and painting can offer, the drawing component maintains the artistic quality. "A master of digital technique, Alan King's vibrant and vividly surreal landscapes bridge the gap between surrealist imagery and New Media technique."
