Week 1 Assignment (Paul P)

The artist I chose to write about is Shige Yamada. Shige Yamada was born on May 25th, 1933 in Wailuku on the island of Maui in Hawai'i. He served in the US Army from 1956 to 1958, and has a history of education in the arts, teaching in California, Hawai'i, and Japan.

The art piece I've chosen to share below is titled "The Sea of Illusion" and it was made using paint. It seems to depict three sets of waves crashing into each other, illuminated by some light source while the rest of the piece remains much darker, with some orange circles and lines most likely being the illusions mentioned in the title. There also appear to be objects at the top and bottom of the waves. The piece comes from a collection titled "Wellspring of Aloha".

Week one assignment

The artist I chose this week was Martinakis Adam. Martinakis Adam is a contemporary digital artist known for his stunning and intricate digital sculptures and 3D art. He was born on December 10, 1972, in Lubań, Poland. However, he is of Greek and Polish descent. He currently resides in Greece. Adam Martinakis creates his art primarily using digital tools and techniques. His work often blurs the lines between traditional sculpture and digital art, creating ethereal and thought-provoking pieces. His artistic process typically involves using software like Z Brush and other 3D modeling tools to create virtual sculptures. He explores various themes in his work, including human emotions, relationships, identity, and the surreal aspects of the human experience. His pieces have received widespread acclaim and exhibited in exhibits, galleries, and digital art journals worldwide. The ability of Martinakis to smoothly mix technology with creative expression has contributed to his reputation in modern digital art.

The piece below is called Level IIIa m. I couldn’t find much initially when I looked this up, but I found a little. Level IV" is a digital artwork created by the artist Adam Martinakis. This piece is part of his series of intricate and visually captivating digital sculptures, often exploring themes of identity, emotion, and the human experience. he created this piece with more that are a part of a collection that are supposed to show human emotions and other things. he made this with a mixture of Z brush and 3ds max.

Week One Assignment

The artist I chose for week one is Takayoshi Ueda. Ueda was born in Japan 1969, and currently works and lives in Wakayama, Japan. While studying in an art school in Kyoto, he was deeply intrigued by the monochrome paint software he used while studying there, and later began creating digitally with a computer in 1994! He went on to create these amazing, intricately detailed analog paintings, and had several exhibitions showcasing his works throughout the years. To create these amazing pieces, he combines different media of his artwork together using different materials (drawings, collages, paintings) along with the digital art using the monochrome paint software to get the finalized art pieces.

The piece I have picked below is a limited edition piece of artwork from an exhibition he held in 2010. Ueda says he created this piece based on the concept of "Harmony arising from the aggregation of diverse individuals and unity in dissonance". The characters in his works are based off of a familiar plant or animal while also being "flexible, rich in variety, and highly rigid" as he describes. Once he constructs his collages, they're described as a unique space where harmony and chaos co-exist! That is initially one of the main components as to why this art drew me in. The mixture of different textures and colors against one another is just so striking and intriguing. You can interpret this art in several different ways, from many unique perspectives. From the figures to the animals and plants, and what kinds of emotions live within the artwork.

Week One Assignment

The artist I chose for this week is Sara Deutsch. She is a multi-media artist, creative arts therapist, and educator who explores "CyberAlchemy".  She uses computers as a way to transform her art, which is what she used for this piece below. I chose this piece because it stood out to me in the sense that; our mind could be what holds the answers to the universe. Or maybe shows how far beyond our mind can create. It could also be a representation of what we are made of, which is stardust. I feel that this is one of those pieces where you could make it out to be whatever you want, and it fits.

Week One Work

Don Archer commended his computer life in the 1990s. In 1992, he co-founded MOCA, where he serves as director.

This image made by D0n Archer used by an AI depicts a Shadow man sitting in the middle of the picture. The way it was made, it looked like the Shadow man was standing in the light of a street lamp or sitting on a couple of bricks in an old abandoned building. This image reminds me of Jack the Ripper with his top hat and dark cloak, which could be possible. Don Archer had placed some prompts where he asked the AI to paint a man sitting somewhere.

Week One Assignment Reagan Franzoni

The artist I chose for week 1 from the Museum of Computer Art is Joan Myerson Shrager. She is an American digital artist. She has been an artist for over 30 years and originally studied painting, sculpture, and ceramics at Moore College of Art and Design and Tyler School of Art. She uses photoshop and illustrator to create some of her designs. More recently, she has started using a new software called Procreate used on an iPad. A lot of her art features photographs of some of her hand-made sculptures covered with designs digitally made in illustrator or Procreate. These sculptures and photographs are usually the basis of her digital paintings.

Some of her recent work follows the tragic stories behind some of the Russian attacks on Ukraine. Other digital paintings reveal the emotions behind wars from the past. A lot of her work reflects experiences and deep thoughts about life and consciousness. She uses bright bold colors to layer on her digital paintings to bring out and distinguish the details made between technology and real art. She usually likes to tell a story through her art and the computer allows her to shape her ideas in ways that physical art materials usually can’t do. The image I chose to attach from her portfolio is one from the art of war pieces. It illustrates a ghost and possibly a family portrait from a long time ago from a previous war and the ghost in this image is probably a soldier fighting in Ukraine. She includes sunflowers in a lot of these pieces, my guess is to bring a more enlightened mood to such a tragic situation or to bring peace to the ghosts in the images. It looks like she may have used illustrator to create more of an original piece with what look to be older photographs dissolved into the image.

Week One Assignment

The artist that I chose for my week one assignment is the FleetingEmber. To create this picture, the artist used a blend of photoshop and used the Wacom Clintiq 13HD drawing tablet. The way the artist created the piece was by painting and drawing the base lines and then using photoshop to touch up the coloring and to add artificial lighting to the tail end of the raven. The work that FleetingEmber created was about examining nature and picturing nature in a cleansing matter. On the other hand if you ask me about what the artwork represents I would say that it is a duality of nature. I believe this is due to the fact that the darkness is represented by the raven and that the brightness is represented by the colors coming off of the raven. It also possibly shows the cycle between night and day with the raven representing the night and the sun and colors representing day.

Week One Assignment (Toby Marineau)

This week I chose the Black Boy and Black Girl on City Street image. This image was created digitally (AI) by Don Archer. He created this piece of art in Wombo Dream and Midjourney. This piece of art was also made in 2023.

I chose this piece of art because it stood out to me. This also gives me hints that these people in the piece of art were living in the mid-late 1990s because of their clothing. And lastly, this piece of art gives me opinions that Don Archer is a cultural artist and likes making art about people.

Paul David Redfern

Paul was born in Leominster, Massachusetts in 1958. He has lived and worked in Gorizia, Italy for several years and in 2014 he was awarded the title Knight of the Republic for artistic merits. He has a heavy passion for classic cars and also an owner of two historic Fiat 500"s, which led him to develop an artistic project called "Photomorfosi".  He claims that he makes his work with only three tools: an iMac, a digital camera and Photoshop. What makes his art fascinating is his use of graphic textures, which creates an illusion that the subject is painted on a real surface, such as wood, tin or stone, instead of a computer. This makes it easier for the observer to imagine that the objects can be real compared to digitalized images. He loves using rust effects in his paintings, as well as overlapping images, to make you take a closer look at his paintings to find the hidden items. This technique is a way that Paul is able to give the observer a way to look at the painting in his eyes. His subjects in the paintings are from the thirties onward that are sporty, but also contextualized with graphics and advertising from the time period. His paintings are very patriotic and show older cars that are made to look antique.

Truman Brown portafolio (Dylan Madera)

The artists that i have chosen that i have found interesting is Truman Brown he made a image of a "monstrous bird" in front of a mysterious  "old mansion."Truman brown claimed to have used 2 different softwares for this image called Midjourney and photoshop. This image seems gives off a creepy type of vibe the way the bird looks like something out of a scary movie and the mansion seems really old and abandoned. this also seems like a fantasy image, the reason i say that is because there aren't many creepy looking birds that are the size of a mansion of what seems to be 3 stories tall.

i think that the bird being taller adds to the creepy side of the image on why is it so abnormally big and why is it outside a creepy mansion. it makes me question a lot of things like is the mansion the birds home or is he just guarding his home or is it a coincidence that the bird is there? another thing about the bird is it seems to have sort of a guard on the front of its chest and it seems to be very skinny and frail which makes it very strange to look at
