Week 1 Assignment (Paul P)
The artist I chose to write about is Shige Yamada. Shige Yamada was born on May 25th, 1933 in Wailuku on the island of Maui in Hawai'i. He served in the US Army from 1956 to 1958, and has a history of education in the arts, teaching in California, Hawai'i, and Japan.
The art piece I've chosen to share below is titled "The Sea of Illusion" and it was made using paint. It seems to depict three sets of waves crashing into each other, illuminated by some light source while the rest of the piece remains much darker, with some orange circles and lines most likely being the illusions mentioned in the title. There also appear to be objects at the top and bottom of the waves. The piece comes from a collection titled "Wellspring of Aloha".
