Week 3 research

For Week Three Research, I chose Jawek Kwakman's Beauty and Skeleton. Jawek defines his art as Radical Romantic, and it is based on 16th & 17th Dutch art. Most of his works consist in naked models surrounded by symbols and objects that leads to paths of interpretation. I chose this one because it is not only well composed, but brings some atmosphere with it, which makes you believe that this objects are present in the scenario, at the same time that it looks artistic. https://moca.virtual.museum/kwakman/kwakman01.htm

Week 3 Research Assignment

This piece is by Martinakis Adam, this is a digital and 3D render art piece. I thought this was really interesting because of how abstract it is. As well as all the shadows that were included for the details. I thought it was super simple without taking away from the idea of all these hands falling all around.

Week 3 Research Assignment: KKC Bauder

Today the works that I looked at were created by KKC Bauder. KKC is a second-generation in the digital painting realm and has had her works in many places across the US and Europe. When looking at her pieces they all have this same idea when it comes to the focal point of the piece almost like it's supposed to be a signature but it's not as on the work there is a print one. In the pieces that I analyzed, there seems to be an oval or circular shape in the dead center of the piece or is what makes up the ultimate picture of what the artist was trying to create. When looking through all of the artworks below I would like to know how often you see this circular shape at the center.

Week 3 Research Assignment: Toby M

This art piece was created by Cezar Duca and he titled this piece "Horror". It depicts horror because of the red background, the red outline of the person in the picture, and the black suit he is wearing. I could not find a link to Duca's art gallery where more of his art could be found. I thought of this art as interesting because of the way the colors stand out. Especially the outline, it brings out the person in the picture. I also like the color choice, as for going with something related to horror, red is the main color because it symbolizes "blood" or "danger".

Week 3: Research Assignment (Peter Mc Lane)

For the third week of researching, I decided to write about Peter Mc Lane. Peter was born in Chamonix, France in 1945, although he grew up in Alsace. Peter's first love was music, in which he was also a former singer; Peter had performed with Anne-Marie Godart. They performed in the Eurovision Contest in 1972, as they represented Monaco with the song "Comme on s'aime". Then Peter discovered the program Painter, to which his passion changed to digital art. Since the end of the 1980's, Peter has been working as a digital artist and has held exhibitions all over the world. Peter's first digital art show was held in Paris in 1994. Peter states that he is influenced by Hieronymous Bosch, Tanguy, Dali, and Max Ernst. Peter is currently living in Vence, which is on the south coast of Riviera. Peter is now interested in both virtual art and old cars. As Peter states "My work is only though my imagination, no scanned images, only a white screen and using the stylus and a Wacom Tablet like a painter." To note towards Peter's accomplishments, Peter has also won the title of Grand Master of Digital Painting (from the Muséum of Computer Art) in 2010.

Week 2 Assignment - Joan Myerson-Shrager

The artist I had found for my research project this week is Joan Myerson-Shrager. "58. KYIV", the piece of work I have placed below, was made using a computer, iPhone, iPad, as well as the drawing programs Photoshop and Procreate. This work, and many others in the Art of War gallery she has at MOCA, are meant to represent current tragic events going on in the world as we speak. This one is about the war between Russia and Ukraine, as well as the bombing on Kyiv.

While researching her and her works, I came across her website detailing her other works, as well as her upbringing.

Week 3 Research Assignment

This week I have chosen to research about Andrew Cole. Cole is of British heritage, currently living and working in China. He is labeled as a grandmaster on MOCA. I went through all of his work and found it very interesting that he bases his art off completed chess games. He takes a picture or snapshot of said game, and then used Corel Draw to put his own spin on it. I picked this piece, "Four Pawns", for its use of this pattern. It shows a complete chess game, with the orange/red side, and the blue side. The dots seem to represent pawns. The You can't really tell what the other pieces are with it, but you can see how Cole uses lines and paths to represent where those pieces can go. As an avid chess player, I have never seen a game turned into this, and it's amazing. You can make guesses on what pieces are which and how the game ended up.

Week Three Research Assignment

For this week's artist, I have chosen Mamta B. Herland. Mamta Baruah Herland was born in Assam, India. She later moved to Norway in the mid-eighties. Mamta pursued her interests in art and design for several years after having studied natural sciences and worked part-time. She studied visual art at the Sydney College of Arts in Australia, then later on continued to gain her master's from the Faculty of Fine Art at the Winchester College of Art in England! Mamta worked as a graphic designer for some time at an art magazine after she had studied graphic design in Oslo. In 2006, she established her own art gallery in her local town, Sandvika, near Oslo. She ran her own art gallery for a few years! She has won three awards that are mentioned on her website, as well as having her work exhibited internationally and represented privately, publicly, and corporately as well.

Mamta says she allows her work to go into any direction and genre. With a sense of spirituality and lots of emotion. She incorporates painting, photography, digital print, and video art among many other forms of art. By putting digital approaches to her form of creativity, she hoped for her art to have this sense of captivation and mysticism. The image I've picked below is from her exhibition "Different Realities". This piece of work is titled "Umbrageous". Hence the name, I picked this image because it gave a sort of dreamy feel to it. I loved the nature and the emotion behind the image. Below I've also included the link to Mamta's website to view more of her work.

Paul Piorkowski - Week 3 Research Assignment

The artist I chose to share this week is Myriam Di Maio. Di Maio is an Italian artist who in recent years has specialized in fractal work. She is self-taught and has been making art for at least nine years as far as I've been able to find.

The painting I've chosen to show is titled "Land" and was made using digital painting (I can't find the specific software used, it just says "digital painting"). The image shows fractal spirals and bright colors, and some of the colors present themselves in a similar way to rays of light, making the piece look holographic or metallic.

Week 3 Research Assignment - Reagan Franzoni

The artist I chose for week 3 from the Museum of Computer Art is Sheila Smith. She is a photographer and digital artist. She studied the concept of advertising and design at the School of Visual Arts before becoming an art director. Before that, she worked with the director of Columbia Records to review some of the best photographers of the sixties portfolios to select some of their work for assignments. Throughout her journey in school, she took courses in photography, drawing, and painting. Today, she is entirely devoted to digital photography. She photographs a wide variety of subjects, such as the streets of New York City, cities in Europe, flowers, still life, children, and dancers. She enhances these photos using Photoshop, which adds a more creative experience to the images. She takes pictures of a particular setting or paints a collage and places them onto the computer to create new images from the original ones she made with new designs and filters in Photoshop. Smith becomes inspired by art in the streets of cities she travels to and what she observes from people’s ‘home turfs.’ In her photographs, she captures moments about people’s lives and candids of crowds on beaches and rail stations. Her work looks at how we observe the world around us and the people living in it.

The image I chose from Smith's photo-based digital art portfolio at the MOCA is of a candid shot from what looks like the streets of New York City. The picture looks like it could be an original photograph she shot, edited in Photoshop using a brush technique to give it a paint brush texture. It seems as if she could have used some Photoshop filters such as oil paint. It also looks like she may have used Photoshop to enhance some of the lighting and colors in the photograph to make it stand out more. I chose this photo because I like the vibrancy of the images colors and I like the way the texture of the picture almost distorts the photograph, but enough to still make out what the image is about. The point behind this image is to observe the constant movement of a city. People are constantly moving and are on the go in the city, and this image captures how the artist did not stop to take a photo. They took a candid view of people not paying attention and continuing their movements.

Week 3:Research Assignment

For this week I chose Anato Finnstark. Anato Finnstark created this piece called "In Flames" by using Procreate. Anato Finnstark used this program to draw out the lines of the piece and color the piece. The piece that Anato Finnstark made was to make a tribute to the anime Berserk by Kentaro Miura. Anato did this because for them most of their work has taken inspiration from the Anime. This piece in particular is in Anato's words to represent the main character Guts and to show his battle in this scene. I believe just from the picture itself it shows the determination of the character in the battle. I also believe it outlines the serious nature of the characters development and goal to achieve what he needs to achieve.

Week 3 Research Assignment

This image was created by Bogdan Zwir. There is not much information on him other than that he is from Russia and is a photographer, photo manipulator, and painter. His art usually consists of humanlike figures have been manipulated in certain ways. I found this picture very interesting because it resembles paintings of people from the past, but the amount of curls that he added is almost comical. I feel like this picture has a mocking/joking tone to it.

Week Three Research Assignment Will Lavigne

The artist that I found interesting this week is Peter Ciccariello. He lives in Connecticut. He studied art and design at Pratt Institute, Brooklyn NY, at the Rhode Island School of Design, Providence, RI, and at the Parsons School of Design, New York City. His art focused on assemblages of real and simulated objects and the tension between word and image. He experiments with an array of 3D programs (which includes adobe photoshop), combining and manipulating 3D models. These are digitally remixed with photographic and scanned imagery creating a metaphoric art that dances between the virtual and the real. I chose this piece of art from this artist because I find it extremely interesting. The first thing you see when looking at this piece of art is a vase and a large bowl, they both have writing on it. The overall color of this piece is dark brown with white writing all over the place. I am not able to read most of what is writing in the image, this creates a sense of confusion when looking at it. However, when you look at the image everything flows well together.

This artist does have a website: http://invisiblenotes.blogspot.com . He also sells some of his art on this website: https://fineartamerica.com/profiles/peter-ciccariello

MOCA Week 3 Renata Spiazzi- Andre Marcano

This is called "Connection" created by Renata Spiazzi. Spazzi was born in Italy and moved to the U.S in 1952 to teach arts and crafts at a San Diego Community College. Once he retired and was introduced to computers, he wanted to push the realities of art and decided not to do normal oil paint arts or water color. He wanted to mess around with fractal programs and filters and made art using non objective images from fractals fragments. He says that his art is like music, its not about what it looks like but how it makes you feel.
Im pretty sure he just used exactly what he said he experimented with. Alot of abstract shapes and fragments of things along with multiple filters.

Week Three Research Assignment Kyle Dann

For the third week, I have decided to write about Michael Sussna. The art that he creates is fractal images, that he says are "photoreal abstract snapshots of geometric yet organic scenery. Michael was born in New Jersey in 1950 and has a BA in Philosophy. He studied at Sonoma State University. He received an MS in Computer Science from Fairleigh Dickinson University. He even got his Ph.D. in Computer Science and Cognitive Science from the University of California, San Diego. He started developing software in 1973 and started creating fractal art in 1985. His images have been all over the internet for many years now. Michael says that fractal imagery is relatively young but already a rich field. He believes that traditional artists have embraced the use of computer graphics to enhance representational depiction. He claims that it is very different from traditional art because it demands a well-developed aesthetic sense. Art masters the tools of perfecting form, color, texture, and composition. His art is black and white with lots of different shapes. The images usually follow some sort of pattern. Each image will stick to a couple different shapes in some sort of symmetric pattern. None of the images have any color. Different shades of black but that is it.
