Week 3 Research Assignment
This week I have chosen to research about Andrew Cole. Cole is of British heritage, currently living and working in China. He is labeled as a grandmaster on MOCA. I went through all of his work and found it very interesting that he bases his art off completed chess games. He takes a picture or snapshot of said game, and then used Corel Draw to put his own spin on it. I picked this piece, "Four Pawns", for its use of this pattern. It shows a complete chess game, with the orange/red side, and the blue side. The dots seem to represent pawns. The You can't really tell what the other pieces are with it, but you can see how Cole uses lines and paths to represent where those pieces can go. As an avid chess player, I have never seen a game turned into this, and it's amazing. You can make guesses on what pieces are which and how the game ended up.
