Week Three Research Assignment
For this week's artist, I have chosen Mamta B. Herland. Mamta Baruah Herland was born in Assam, India. She later moved to Norway in the mid-eighties. Mamta pursued her interests in art and design for several years after having studied natural sciences and worked part-time. She studied visual art at the Sydney College of Arts in Australia, then later on continued to gain her master's from the Faculty of Fine Art at the Winchester College of Art in England! Mamta worked as a graphic designer for some time at an art magazine after she had studied graphic design in Oslo. In 2006, she established her own art gallery in her local town, Sandvika, near Oslo. She ran her own art gallery for a few years! She has won three awards that are mentioned on her website, as well as having her work exhibited internationally and represented privately, publicly, and corporately as well.
Mamta says she allows her work to go into any direction and genre. With a sense of spirituality and lots of emotion. She incorporates painting, photography, digital print, and video art among many other forms of art. By putting digital approaches to her form of creativity, she hoped for her art to have this sense of captivation and mysticism. The image I've picked below is from her exhibition "Different Realities". This piece of work is titled "Umbrageous". Hence the name, I picked this image because it gave a sort of dreamy feel to it. I loved the nature and the emotion behind the image. Below I've also included the link to Mamta's website to view more of her work.
