Week One Assignment Kyle Dann
Paul David Redfern
Paul was born in Leominster, Massachusetts in 1958. He has lived and worked in Gorizia, Italy for several years and in 2014 he was awarded the title Knight of the Republic for artistic merits. He has a heavy passion for classic cars and also an owner of two historic Fiat 500"s, which led him to develop an artistic project called "Photomorfosi". He claims that he makes his work with only three tools: an iMac, a digital camera and Photoshop. What makes his art fascinating is his use of graphic textures, which creates an illusion that the subject is painted on a real surface, such as wood, tin or stone, instead of a computer. This makes it easier for the observer to imagine that the objects can be real compared to digitalized images. He loves using rust effects in his paintings, as well as overlapping images, to make you take a closer look at his paintings to find the hidden items. This technique is a way that Paul is able to give the observer a way to look at the painting in his eyes. His subjects in the paintings are from the thirties onward that are sporty, but also contextualized with graphics and advertising from the time period. His paintings are very patriotic and show older cars that are made to look antique.
