Week 10 Research Assignment - Ian Garcia
For this week, I decided to research Renata Spiazzi for this assignment. Renata was born in Trieste, Italy, on January 10, 1926. From a very young age, Renata has had a burning passion for art, and she has stayed involved with the arts all of her life. During WWII, she supported her family by working in the advertising scene, specifically at the Unione Pubblicita' Italiana in Trieste. She then moved to the United States in 1952, where she taught arts and crafts at the San Diego Community College. Renata was also the owner of Renée's Children Manufacturing and Designing Clothes in La Jolla from 1953 through 1980. Renata finally bought her very own computer when she retired. That's when she discovered the potential of digital art and its capabilities; she then decided not to do oil paintings, watercolors, or even woodcuts. She was purely focused on the computer and its possibilities and could create compositions using the non-objective images given to her by fractal fragments; she says that it has opened up a whole new world of possibilities for her. She is completely taken aback by fractals now; she also compares her compositions to music. Renata states that her art is not what it looks like, but it is what it makes you feel when you look at it.
