Week 7 Research

For Week Seven Research I chose Robert W. McGregor's Winter Solstice. According to his website, Robert McGregor is a multidisciplinary visual artist working in both traditional and digital media. An accomplished writer/author, musician/composer, and software designer/developer fluent in several computer programming languages. This work was created based on an art doodled on an napkin, and brought to pc using Persistence of Vision and custom-developed software. I chose this artwork because it looks like a spaceship, with this precise form and well shaped spheres. If someone told me that it was from Star Trek, I would totally believed it. http://www.mcgregorfineart.com/home.asp

research week 7

Alessandro Bavari, an Italian artist, is a trailblazer in surrealistic digital art, blending photography and digital manipulation. Often regarded as a pioneer in this field, Bavari, largely self-taught despite studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, seamlessly incorporates the computer as a tool in his artistic process. His work, influenced by European mythology and literature, is recognized for its captivating and enigmatic qualities. This piece of art, right here, I don’t know what is means but it may have something to do with that rose this figure is holding

Week 7 Research

I decided to look at the works by Myriam Lozada-Jarvis today. She was the day's featured artist and for a good reason. Instantly, when looking at her pieces, they are amazing visually. The colors are highly vibrant and are attractive to the eye. She does her work by using her skills in painting and drawing. The piece that I want to highlight is the piece called Painting My Garden. This piece is really lovely and very peaceful to look at. It resembles a human figure standing in a garden managing it. The exciting thing is that the garden looks more like a desert and only matches the work title if that is what it looks like before she paints it.

Week 7 Research

On this edition, MOCA helped me find Laurentiu Todie. Todie was born in Romania, before migrating to Paris, and then New York City in the 80's. He's a very successful digital artist, working in the industry since 1990. Before that he also enjoyed success in the art world, being in numerous art shows in Paris and Soho in the 80's. His art though, consists of pixelating. He takes a picture, either his own or public domain, and renders it down to extremely low pixelation. He then paints it pixel by pixel, to create a new image, like the two you see below. The first, named "Golden Boy Wonder", shows his style, with all the small "tiles" being actual singular pixels. It shows a dramatic portrait of a golden-skinned hero, the kind of fairytale princess marries. Next, "Screwdriver N Pliers" shows a singular screwdriver with three pliers next to it. It's very simple, but unique at the same time. His art reminds me of stained glass art.

Week 7 MOCA Debi Peralta-Andre Marcano

This piece is called "Concupiscence" by Debi Peralta. This piece is actually an algorithmic fractal which is why I chose it because that's what we did last week for class. I couldn't find much about today's artists. However, I did find that she is based in Salt Lake City, Utah and, she specializes in fractal art. Upon googling her name you can find her work on Pinterest as well as MOCA.

Week 7 Research Assignment (Toby M)

Week 7, I have decided to choose the artist Ronnie Caplan. Caplan born in Montreal, Canada became an artist to follow his favorite artist, Van Gogh. Ronnie was born in 1961 and is of the Jewish religion. He moved to the United States because of his successful work. "I've had these cravings since birth. To draw, paint, sculpt, create... This eventually led me to Parsons School of Design NYC, developing my crafts and honing my philosophy amongst the community of artists all over Manhattan, especially Greenwich Village. To pay for my passions, I landed as creative director at several ad agencies publishing companies. I also advanced my ability to generate emotion by designing live environments as an event designer" (Caplan). So not only was Ronnie a successful artist, but he also worked at schools to share his work with others which gave him popularity, leading him to fame. In the US, he has been up and down the coast of Southern California, the Caribbean, and Mexico. "Along the way I continued to be enlightened by diverse people, absorbing their cultures through the infinite beauty colors in their worlds" (Caplan). This, in my opinion, is important because not only is Caplan giving people his culture, but he loves to let others shine as well. I chose this art piece because I believe it reflects being in Southern California, and Mexico. Being in those cities with lots of people to be around absorbing the diversity and culture.

Statements Said:

"I am an event producer/creative director/writer, who travels extensively because of my work. Always having my digital camera with me, I've finally decided to express myself beyond the realm of the stage, and from within the confines of experiential live events and corporate theatre... thus creating stunning, fantastical and wonderful, original (limited edition) works of art for private collectors, leisure groups, hotels, restaurants, corporations and art aficionados/aesthetes everywhere" (Caplan).

Born in 1953 in the charming town of Angoulême, South Western France, this Ariana Bauers life revolves around creativity. They live with their family wife Catherine daughter Lucie and son Julien who manages their online presence. Their art is profoundly influenced by the beauty of Angoulême.In 1977, she earned a National Fine Arts diploma with special recognition for sculpture and drawing. Her artistic journey has taken her from local exhibitions to international stages, starting in 2003.What i find intriguing about this artist is her fearlessness in adopting technology. They switched from traditional art to digital in 1999 while keeping their strong connection to surrealism. At the center of their art sits the interplay of imagination and chance. Their creations are more than pictures; they are experiments. she describes process as "stream-of-consciousness," where they embark on each project without a set destination. The joy of discovery is what truly sets her art apart. As viewers, we're privileged to witness the evolution of their work, from traditional to digital, and to be immersed in a world of surrealism, experimentation, and the delightful surprises each piece holds.

Week 7 Research Assignment- Kyle Dann

 Image Preview Zoom

Nina Koelman is from Baden-Baden, Germany. After school, she studied Business Administration for Traffic and Tourism and worked in the tourism industry for over 20 years. Nina was able to work from home, as well as travel for work. She taught herself her artistic skills during the 1980s, but she had several years of interruptions, she says. Nina liked to create abstract pictures with lots of different colors, forms, and designs. She mostly painted with a felt pen, however, in 2009, she discovered how to create art using her computer. Since 2012, she has had several exhibits in Baden-Baden. In 2013 she had an exhibit in the State Museum "Preodolenie" in Moscow. She was also nominated for the Palm Art Award in 2012 and 2013.  Her art is very simple. Some of her work has lots of colors but for example, the picture above only uses a few dull colors. The use of shapes and symmetry in the painting draws the audience in. The shadows of the shapes give a unique display of how the shapes are perceived. Some of her work are more detailed than others but most of them have some sort of connection throughout the piece. Either the shapes or the colors are connected in her work.

Week Seven Research Assignment

My research for this week has led me to the fabricated portraits by Les Andersson. While researching this artist, I have yet to come across a single profile or webpage regarding them. There is no information on them except their gallery on the MOCA website. This is an issue I commonly find with artists who use AI to create works of art, unlike their raw-skilled counterparts.

Les Andersson's work "Big Hatted Lady" caught my eye as I clicked through the 14 portraits due to the bright splashes of purple. The very noticeable eye had also grasped my attention. The piece is very muddled, as AI art often is. That way has a bit of charm, keeping AI art distinguishable from art that people made themselves.

 Werner Hornung

This week, I am researching Werner Hornung. He was born in Germany in 1954 in a small town. He learned graphic design at an ad agency in Switzerland. He moved to France in 1970 and has been established in France ever since. He has his advertising studio in France. He publishes art under the name “Eifelturm.” When he was young, he started experimenting with making collages. He did them with paper glue and scissors because computer software like Photoshop was unavailable then. He started doing computer art in 1994. He was scanning the collages he made, and he would then enhance them in Photoshop and Kai’s Power Tools. Werner Hornung jokes that his favorite software is called “Flair” and is located on the right side of his brain. I like his work because it is very open-ended, and we can interpret it differently. This week, I chose a piece of his called: “I Had No Earthly Idea.” I like this piece because it represents what someone might be going through in their head. His work is abstract. That is what I like about it because everyone will understand his art differently.

His personal website (not in English) www.wernerhornung.com

Week 7 research - Hayden Grigas

This piece was made by an artist by the name of Michael frank. This piece was created using 3d rendering, The reason I chose this piece was because it looked very similar to the action script assignment we just completed as most of the pieces in this particular gallery. There are very many repeating shapes to make plants and other natural looking objects in this gallery and it was definitely an interesting gallery to scroll through.

Week 7 Research Assignment

For this week, I decided to research about Lisle Drake. She lives in the Hill Country of Texas currently. Lisle states that Alchemy transforms base elements into precious new forms, and each of her works represents one aspect or another of that magical art. Lisle has been an artist all of her adult life. She has worked within a wide range of media, from pen and ink on paper to batik and other techniques on fabric. Lisle has used the computer as both a tool and a medium since she had her first 128K Mac Classic in 1985. Lisle states that most of her ideas for her art are mainly from her dreams and that her dreams tend to run in series, which can be over many years. To which each dream Lisle finds some new detail about that dream each time. Then, she would spend much time gathering these memories on paper or directly into a computer. The memories and ideas that she's had have filled hundreds of sketchbooks and computer files. Lisle predominantly works with applications like Photoshop, Painter, and Illustrator. Her input devices are a high-resolution scanner as well as a Wacom tablet. As she begins to work on a new art piece, she then decides which art elements are already in her archives and what elements have to be added/created new. If new elements need to be added, she might sketch the idea on paper and scan it in. She begins working on Painter or Illustrator files with her Wacom tablet or uses an old digital file and then manipulates the element directly in Photoshop. Unfortunately, Lisle Drake's website no longer works, and it is different than it is supposed to be. As well as, there isn't much to find out about Lisle Drake other than what is given in Lisle's exhibit on MOCA.

Week 7 Research - Reagan Franzoni

The artist I chose for week 7 from the Museum of Computer Art is Ileana Frómeta Grillo. She is a digital artist as well as a fine arts artist from Caracas, Venezuela, where she studied art at the Fine Arts Museum in Caracas. She also studied art and black and white photography at California State University at San Bernardino. Her art consisted of charcoal drawings, portraits and oil pastels. She later on started working with digital media programs to paint on the computer. Ileana’s art symbolizes and visualizes her roots from South America and the Caribbean through the color combinations she uses. She also uses imagery to combine those symbols with traditional modern elements. Ileana uses a digital program on her tablet and computer called Painter to paint digitally and uses a Canon digital camera to create her digital art. She blends the two art pieces in Photoshop using different filters and digital tools to design her collages.

The image that I chose from Ileana Frómeta Grillo’s portfolio is called “The Wonders of Alice,” and it is an image of a woman over the background of the beach. The image also has several different symbols such as a clock, butterflies, a stork, and the word “observation.” The painting part of the collage looks to symbolize Ileana’s culture and the photography in the background may symbolize contemporary cultures. The meaning symbolizes the observation of changing times as cultures become more modernized. I chose this image because I like the use of beach scenery in the background, it gives the collage a more realistic look. I also really like the use of the walls to give the image a scene from inside of some type of architectural building looking out into the ocean. In this collage, Ileana used the software Painter combined with digital pictures and used a number of Photoshop filters to design this piece.

week 7: Research Assignment

For this week I chose the artist Sylvain Sarrailh who created this piece with Photoshop. He used Photoshop to sketch out and colorize the piece. He also used Photoshop to add lighting to the piece and to some objects by making the tips of the flowers seem brighter so that they seem alive. The piece that Sarrailh made was to examine the beauty of nature as well as the mysticism around it. I also believe that he is trying to convey to the viewer that they should delve deep into nature and try to find something they themselves have never found before. I believe this because not only in the image do you see someone who is walking from a giant clearing to this giant flower tree. But it looks to be that they have traveled far because the clothes they are wearing are from a desert like environment in my opinion. I also believe this due to the fact that in the description of the post it says By searching deep in the forest, you may find the fifth season.

Paul Piorkowski - Week 7 Research Assignment

The artist I chose to share this week goes by the name AbiToads. AbiToads (real name Abigail Roberts) is from New Jersey and has been making art her whole life, first posting her art in early 2021. She does both digital and physical artworks, and uses Procreate with Adobe Aftereffects, and she sometimes uses Procreate to animate her artwork as well. She is best known for her Mushlings, which are mushroom creatures, as well as her illustrations of frogs, and has a Mushling board game coming soon in partnership with YadCo Games called Mycelium.

The art I decided to showcase is from her Mushlings collection, and is titled Bleeding Tooth:

Week 7 Research Assignment

For this week I chose the artist Else, under her gallery exhibit titled “Spirited Creativity”. Else’s art is very famous, having attracted several art galleries, art lovers, and journalists. Over 100 exhibitions she’s had between Paris, New York, China, and Israel. Her work is a hit among many, as she continues to let the fine arts influence her style that she conveys within the pieces she creates. Else is 61 years old, based in France, She describes her art as “defending the truth, devoid of heaviness”.

I spent some time looking for art that jumped out at me, and something about the way that she uses color along with shapes is something I really enjoy. I like bright, colorful art that stands out against a crowd. I’m not much of a fan of dark art. But I do love these colorful shapes with the contrasting colors, which is why I loved this piece so much from her AutoGallery Exhibit. I was able to find her profile on Singulart, which I’ll link down below!

Week 7 MOCA Shari Nees- Andre Marcano

This piece is called "Paper Wings" by Shari Nees. I saw her work in the daily featured art and decided to take a look at her work. At first glance, I thought this was the Bat symbol from Batman until I read the actual title. It seems like she used Photoshop to create this. She might have made a pattern with shapes, colored it, and then used a filter to add depth to the colors, then she may have upped the size of the canvas and rotated the piece 45 degrees.

Unfortunately Shari doesn’t have a page on MOCA anymore but I was able to find her LinkedIn. I found out that Sharis work is to "explore the relationships between Trompe L'oeil and surreal Abstracts." Her influencers are da Vinci and Buckminster Fuller. As a child, she was always curious to find art's limits. She also sells art on online shops and galleries.
