Week 7 Research Assignment

 Werner Hornung

This week, I am researching Werner Hornung. He was born in Germany in 1954 in a small town. He learned graphic design at an ad agency in Switzerland. He moved to France in 1970 and has been established in France ever since. He has his advertising studio in France. He publishes art under the name “Eifelturm.” When he was young, he started experimenting with making collages. He did them with paper glue and scissors because computer software like Photoshop was unavailable then. He started doing computer art in 1994. He was scanning the collages he made, and he would then enhance them in Photoshop and Kai’s Power Tools. Werner Hornung jokes that his favorite software is called “Flair” and is located on the right side of his brain. I like his work because it is very open-ended, and we can interpret it differently. This week, I chose a piece of his called: “I Had No Earthly Idea.” I like this piece because it represents what someone might be going through in their head. His work is abstract. That is what I like about it because everyone will understand his art differently.

His personal website (not in English) www.wernerhornung.com
