Week 7 Research
On this edition, MOCA helped me find Laurentiu Todie. Todie was born in Romania, before migrating to Paris, and then New York City in the 80's. He's a very successful digital artist, working in the industry since 1990. Before that he also enjoyed success in the art world, being in numerous art shows in Paris and Soho in the 80's. His art though, consists of pixelating. He takes a picture, either his own or public domain, and renders it down to extremely low pixelation. He then paints it pixel by pixel, to create a new image, like the two you see below. The first, named "Golden Boy Wonder", shows his style, with all the small "tiles" being actual singular pixels. It shows a dramatic portrait of a golden-skinned hero, the kind of fairytale princess marries. Next, "Screwdriver N Pliers" shows a singular screwdriver with three pliers next to it. It's very simple, but unique at the same time. His art reminds me of stained glass art.
To see more of his art, here is another of his collections that is for sale: https://www.seditionart.com/laurentiu_todie
