Week 7 Research Assignment

For this week, I decided to research about Lisle Drake. She lives in the Hill Country of Texas currently. Lisle states that Alchemy transforms base elements into precious new forms, and each of her works represents one aspect or another of that magical art. Lisle has been an artist all of her adult life. She has worked within a wide range of media, from pen and ink on paper to batik and other techniques on fabric. Lisle has used the computer as both a tool and a medium since she had her first 128K Mac Classic in 1985. Lisle states that most of her ideas for her art are mainly from her dreams and that her dreams tend to run in series, which can be over many years. To which each dream Lisle finds some new detail about that dream each time. Then, she would spend much time gathering these memories on paper or directly into a computer. The memories and ideas that she's had have filled hundreds of sketchbooks and computer files. Lisle predominantly works with applications like Photoshop, Painter, and Illustrator. Her input devices are a high-resolution scanner as well as a Wacom tablet. As she begins to work on a new art piece, she then decides which art elements are already in her archives and what elements have to be added/created new. If new elements need to be added, she might sketch the idea on paper and scan it in. She begins working on Painter or Illustrator files with her Wacom tablet or uses an old digital file and then manipulates the element directly in Photoshop. Unfortunately, Lisle Drake's website no longer works, and it is different than it is supposed to be. As well as, there isn't much to find out about Lisle Drake other than what is given in Lisle's exhibit on MOCA.
