Week 15 Research Assignment (Toby M)
Link: Gerhard Scholz
For this last week, I chose art from Gerhard Scholz. Scholz was a German painter, born in Wolfenbuttel and had his artistic training at the Karlsruhe Academy. He also provided military service in World War I. After World War I, he continued painting, working in a style fusing cubist and futuristic ideas. In 1919 Scholz became a member of the Communist Party of Germany, and his work for the next few years was harshly critical of postwar Germany's social and economic order. By 1925, however, his approach had softened into something closer to neoclassicism, also while being appointed a professor at the Baden State Academy of Art.
I chose this painting from him because it reminds me of the mandalas we have created in Photoshop. Also using radial symmetry is another aspect of Photoshop. I also like how simple this piece of art is. Only used two colors for this painting.
