Week 14 Research
For the penultimate research assignment, I have chosen LA Ulrich. Through all of the research that I attempted to gain from them, I could not find much other than what they had on MOCA. Instead, I will talk about what they had on MOCA and then focus mainly on their piece and what I take from it. I picked one piece from their collection, 'Apo7x-120720-18'. This piece was created with Apophysis and then color-boosted using Picasa 3. In the piece, there is a swirl that starts on the very right which then rotates counter-clockwise and then becomes more defined and a straight line. This line then becomes the perimeter and goes in a triangular pattern, making a triangular perimeter. there are gaps between the lines, in which there are smaller versions of the pattern said above. I especially like the coloring in this piece. It's not a constant color, it starts in a shade of blue into red into yellow into purple into green. It's constantly and smoothly changing. The smaller patterns within the triangle are all also different colors, and you can see that they are also changing colors, coinciding with their larger pattern. The perimeter line is also interesting. It starts as the texture of a very light brush, like a comet in the sky. As it turns into a straight line, it collects more of a hardened texture, seeing it more as a wall that contains the other pattern within it. I really appreciate it's completely black background, as it helps emphasize the pattern in it. Overall I love this piece of art, and I would compare it to something I would see in an Apple commercial, very abstract, creative, futuristic, but rather simple.
