Week 14 Research Assignment (Toby M)

This week, I chose the artist Juliette Gribnau. Gribnau is an artist who lives in Arnhem which is in the Netherlands. She started working on the computer in 1996 beginning her art in fractals, which is also her biggest interest. She is also interested in 3D art, so she combined both for some art. In 1947, she studied art and also went to school in the Netherlands but never worked as a professional artist.

Before becoming an artist, she was a social worker and mother. But just before her children had left home, they introduced her to computers and this is how she got interested in computers and gathered the possibility of digital art. As of all the art she has made on the computer, specializing in fractals and using many different software. Her two biggest software that were used were Xenodream and Ultrafractal.

I chose this piece of art because it reminded me of what we were working on in class. Creating mandalas in Photoshop. The one thing that caught my eye in this art piece is that it is not perfectly centered, but off to the right. It makes me wonder if Gribnau did this on purpose or if she made a slight mistake in this fractal but decided to keep it.
