Week 15 Research Assignment
This weeks artist for our weekly research assignment is Helga Schmitt Pullach. Helga was born in Augsburg, Germany in 1936. She was a bookseller, but she retired and decided to teach herself digital art. The decision for her to switch over from being a bookseller to becoming a digital artist has a lot to do with her interests and connection to contemporary and fine arts throughout her life. What intrigued me about Helga was how she took something she loved and turned that hobby into something much more. She states, “All I intend is to create images and if somewhere somebody likes them the way they are it will make me very happy.” I feel that this is such a wholesome view she has while creating her art,. As it is more so for herself, but is content when others find joy in her work as well. She has also won several awards at MOCA including 5 Donnie awards throughout their digital contest, as well as other honorable mentions and a first prize at the 2014 Donnie Awards. I chose the image down below and Helga in general because her art style is something that is very different an I feel it can be interpreted so differently depending on what is being looked at. There are so many elements to her pieces, the more you look the more you can discover. It’s layers within layers and almost different worlds coming together as one within her pieces! I have linked her website down below, her work is worth taking a peek. There are so many styles and vibes her work gives off!
