Week 12 Research

For this week I have chosen the artist Tuen van der Zalm. Tuen studied animation, mainly 3d computer animation from 2004-2008 at Utrecht School of the Arts in the Netherlands. During his studies he made two short films that have been screened at many film festivals all over the world. Post graduation, he found many opportunities to change his style and develop his own by looking into other softwares and computer technologies. He worked for the next four years freelancing and creating animations and short films. Tuen ended up creating a way to work with particles in 2013 where he was able to play with abstract forms. After some time he cracked the code  and was able to create nebula like pieces by using only mathematics and physics! He would look at Hubble telescope images to be able to replicate the images and would break them down while also studying how these nebulas came to be. Overtime, Tuen was able to come up with multiple techniques to be able to make these nebulas and space images. Since 2017 he has worked with a number of companies, people, and music artist as well as developing visuals for music artists, tv shows, and games. He has made visuals for Star Trek Discovery, The Orville, and Maniac. I chose his work at first because the more I looked into it, the more it reminded me of outer space which is something I have always been fascinated about since I was a kid! I just felt like the images he produced really came to life. There is so much detail in his pieces between the colors, depth, and how they are lighted too. I love everything about these pieces! Below is one of my favorite Nebulae images from his portfolio, I have also linked his website down below!
