Paul Piorkowski - Week 13 Research Assignment

The artist I chose to share this week goes by the name Elk. Born in Lausanne, Switzerland, Elk has been making artworks since 2006, with both physical and digital media. Their artworks often depict animals, and often in fantasy settings. The software they use for digital art are Photoshop, InDesign, Paint Sai, Clip Studio, Illustrator, and AfterEffects.

I again chose two pieces to share this week, both done for the card game Magic: the Gathering. This first piece is titled Snow-Covered Mountain, and belongs to a card of the same name. It depicts a young mountain goat standing on a cliffside looking over the mountains through the trees ahead of it, capturing a pleasant scene conveying the majesty of a silent winter morning.

This next piece, from the same set as the first, is titled Snow-Covered Plains, again belonging to a card of the same name. It depicts an owl flying over a snowed out field, with all but the trees completely buried in snow, with a golden background possibly showing a sunrise. This piece, to me, feels almost nostalgic, like waking up early on Christmas morning as the sun is just starting to rise, excited to open presents.
