Week 9 MOCA-Andre Marcano
This piece is called Lyric Abstraction by Alain Valet
The 37-year-old Alain Valet lives in Arlon, Belgium, his hometown. In addition to being a painter and poet, he has been using digital art for some time. On top of that, he creates wood sculptures, marble paintings, and china ink drawings—sometimes in tandem with other artists. He uses both computer and offline time to produce his digital art. I enjoy working on a sequence of images, he says. I start with a source image, manipulate it, add elements or filters, print it, collage, scan it, and work over it with paint or china ink. I then rescan and manipulate it again, focusing on specific details, and use those details as new source images. It's a never-ending graphic story that keeps me interested. He claims that his attempts to "give birth to new images--a kind of lyric abstraction--in which the original motif gets drowned out or is integrated into a new creation." He draws using a mouse in Photoshop, primarily with the aid of Kaď Power Tools. His work is meticulous and accurate. It's common for the viewer to evaluate the qualities of different versions of the same image and motifs.Link to the piece:https://moca.virtual.museum/valet/valet01.htm
