Week 8 Research

For this weeks artist, I chose Myriam De Maio. Myriam is a self taught digital artist who discovered fractals five years ago. She believes tyhat they are a beautiful and creative mode of artistic expression, as she is also diving into didigtal painting as well. I found her interesting because before her journey through digital art, she always felt that she “hated” computers, but actually found that sh is very good at what she creates. Her interests include music, mountains, and deep ecology. Based off of her interests, you would probably have never known she would be into digital arts! I found her story inspiring because sometimes in the midst of what we think we might “hate” or dislike, it turns out it's something we are good at or we enjoy. We just have to give it a try. I chose a few of her pieces that stood out to me. I really loved her art in terms of the color combinations she uses, I think the pieces always blend so nicely. I loved the depth and dimension she had within her fractal pieces along with the vibrance of the colors themselves. She brought in certain elements of texture as well that I thought were cool. It almost looks like the colors are dancing. I love very colorful bright pieces of art, things that look like they're in motion! Kind of jumping or swirling through the screen. Her personal page that was linked in a few places seems to be down, but I was able to find her work on Flickr!
