Week 6 Research Assignment
For this week I decided to research about Karin Kuhlmann. Karin was born in 1948 and she is now living and working in Verl, Germany. Karin studied in the fields of photography and graphic design, she also has been a commercial artist for many years. Karin has worked in different firms like Bertelsmann and Nobilia, both as a freelancer. Karin's art is specialized in abstract art, to which she calls her own work "AbstraXness." Something to note is that Karin has won a multitude of different awards, awards such as the Laurence Gartel Award for Excellence and 1st place in the 2003 MOCA Donnie Award for Fractal and Mathematical Art. Karin is honored as one of the finest fractal designers known of this day. Karin's artwork has been displayed in numerous exhibits all around the globe, ranging from; Hawaii, Russia, Australia, the UK, India and Thailand. The 12 different works that MOCA included in Karin's exhibit were created in Photoshop using "KPT5's FraxFrame filter," which are labeled as fractals. Below are an artist statement as well as Karin Kuhlmann's website. Another thing to note, Karin's art has a significant similarity to Apophysis art, our other assignment for this week.
Artist Statement
"It is not my aim to create realistic reflections of surrounding environment. I would rather like to show the things between and behind and to make my thoughts and perceptions visible."
