Week 5 MOCA Research
This week I've decided to do research on Alex Dragulescu. He is a Romanian virtual artist, pushing the boundaries on how art can be made. He has multiple degrees, with a Master's of Fine Arts in Visual Arts. He has traveled the world in exhibitions, to gather information and inspiration for his art. His art though, sits at the intersection between art and technology. For example, this series, which he named "Spam Architecture", is a result of a computer program that Dragulescu designed. It takes junk email and uses certain keywords, patterns, and other algorithms that are programmed in order to create what you see below. He was hired by an email security company to help visualize the threats they faced, and he was able to do so with his program. He controlled color coding, the positioning of the virtual camera, and lighting. I find this work to be unique and original, and to some degree mind-boggling on how somebody is able to program that and have such good results. The art itself is very abstract and up to interpretation, I see a very cruel version of a mouse trap.
