Week One: Research Assignment (Peter Ciccariello)

This week, I decided to write about the artist, Peter Ciccariello. Peter is a digital artist, photographer, and a poet; his work is usually inclusive of the utilization of both images and text together. Peter studied at multiple different schools including; Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York, Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, Rhode Island, and Parsons School of Design in New York City.   Peter was the winner of the Corel Manipulated Photography Competition in July, 2006. On the Poetry Foundation website, Peter has two visual poems; one is named "The Disremembered Glossolalist" and the other is "In the Absence of Oulipo". Peter now lives and creates his art on the edge of a forest in Northeastern Connecticut. Peter experiments with a variety of 3D programs, utilizing both found and appropriated 3D models.

On the MOCA page for Peter, it says that his current interests are "are in experimenting with the fusion of text and images in 3-D computer graphics environments, and exploring the possibilities of poetry as landscape". Usually you will see Peter's pieces have subliminal messaging within, to which his titles may also be connected to/be a clue towards the message. With the first image on the MOCA webpage for Peter shows a room with something that resembles a kettle next to a bowl on a table. Though, everything in the room has text on it. The words I can make out; british, muslims, wants, to, reverted, and confront, shrines, doctrines, extremism in their midst, further, increases. To which the title of this piece being "Extremism in their Midst". This title and art could relate to the extremist ideals within the British Muslim community.'
