Week 4 Research Assignment
Thomas Demuth was born in 1965 near Hamburg, and is a 3D artist from Germany. Thomas completed his education in the field of 3D design in 2002. Demuth uses a 3D rendering software to create photo-abstract images based on polygon mesh structures. Thomas calls his own style of art "Polygonismus", to which he calls his concept behind his unique style "The Economy of Polygons". This unique style is both dramatic and profound, it's able to promote the artist's work psychological depth and photo-abstract intensity simultaneously. Thomas' themes range fairly wide from religion to anthropology to terror in the modern world. Thomas prefers to refer to himself as a "digital alchemist" rather than a digital artist, this is because he "sees the computer as the oven where he places his ingredients, the software as the fire below the oven, and his art as the gold that appears like magic when the process is over." Thomas is always trying to reduce his art to its most basic parts, using polygons sparingly, which often leads to an intense complexity as well as a level of abstraction. The messages within his pieces of art are something that is extremely relevant to the modern world. The first image that MOCA uses for Thomas Demuth is Das Abendmal 2, it very closely relates to The Last Supper with Jesus and his other Disciples at the table before Jesus is crucified.
