Week 4 Research Assignment
This week I decided to go into photograph based computer art, and encountered the work of Jeff T. Alu. Although he is mainly known for his work in photography, he is involved with computer art as well. His work is featured in MOCA, with his collection of black-and-white fine art photography. In this collection he went to deserts in Southern California, with his Kodak DC-280 camera. After taking the photos he used photoshop to turn them into black and white and used other tools like bum and dodge brushes. This piece, titled "Shack2", caught my eye. Unlike some of his other work, this one has a main central focus point, the old abandoned shack. There's also a great landscape, with the desert floor and the mountains off in the horizons. Finally, I really like how the sky is not clear, providing another layer and component as a background to the shack. This piece looks like it belongs in a show like Breaking Bad, where it is very deserted and very gloomy. It could also very easily be used in a horror movie, with the killer coming out of the shack.
