Week 4 Research Assignment Björn Dämpfling
Week 4 Research Assignment
The artist that I researched this week is Björn Dämpfling. He is a German artist with a doctorate in economics but has been doing art for much of his life. He is a full-time artist now. He possesses a distinctive and fertile digital style; his art combines extraordinary biological specimens, from fish and flora to insects and birds. He uses painting programs such as Fractal Painter and Freehand to create his fantastic art, often with a Wacom tablet and sometimes uses scanned paper sketches. One of the values of Bjorn is that he wants his style to be unique. He likes is art pieces to be easily identifiable. He believes the most critical value in creating art is freedom of creation. The work of art that I chose this week is called Topsyturvy 6. It is a piece with vibrant colors. It reminds me of some piece of art inside my grandmother’s apartment. This art brings out great memories that I have with my grandmother. There are lots of small details when you look at his craft. We can see different shapes, including humanoid figures, small animals, and insects. What I like about his work is that his art is somewhat open-ended. What I mean by that is that everyone has a different imagination and will see his art differently. In my chosen piece, I see birds, insects, a grasshopper, bacteria, a spider, a butterfly, flowers, and many different shapes. What makes it interesting is how someone else could see completely different shapes than me. He does an excellent job of being unique.
