Week 1 Assignment

This week I chose to write about Paul David Redfern. Born in Leominster, MA in 1958, he has worked and lived mostly in Gorizia, Italy. In 1994, Redfern's passion for classic cars inspired him to create "Photomorsi". Photomorsi, is his artistic take on digital art using "an iMac, a digital camera and Photoshop". He uses a vintage car or vespa as his main subject of his art, and then layering with graphic textures, to create an image that the subject is on steel, wood or other hard material, instead of a computer or digital background.

I found Redfern's work interesting and amusing, because of the sense of nostalgia it creates. It also very "Americana" feel, which I appreciate and love. The image I chose, titled 'Arizona Roy', shows a vintage Chevy Corvette, with an American flag, a classic Arizona license plate, and the sign of Roy's, a motel and cafĂ© on the famous Route 66, in Amboy, California. I picked this piece because I loved the rugged and rusty colors it has throughout. You can clearly see all 4 subjects, the sign, the car, the flag and the license plate, without it looking too busy or full, nor any of them getting in each other's way. If I had to guess, I would predict I could see this piece in a biker bar or some sort of American themed restaurant or diner.
